Emergency Back-Up Generators

If you have ever lost your power because of a storm, a fire, or even an accident that took out a neighborhood power pole, and you had to sit in the dark waiting for PG&E to repair the problem, you already know that wondering how long it will take is aggravating. In Pollock Pines the power has been knocked out for up to a week during snow storms. And while you are without power, you could be without heat (pellet stoves use a fan to distribute heat; no fan, no heat), or water if you depend on a pump. And TV. And the garage door opener. Why not give yourself the security of a clean-operating, safe propane-powered emergency power generator? We represent the best names in generators: Kohler, Generac, Guardian, and Briggs & Stratton. There are a variety of options, from a small unit that you manually start, to a bigger unit with an automatic switch to start up when it senses a power loss from the grid.

Be Aware of the Danger of Gasoline-Powered Generators

Health officials said they see a spike in poisoning incidents after hurricanes and other major storms. The danger comes when electricity is knocked out and people look for other power sources for cooking, lighting and cooling or heating their homes. The big contributor is that people have (gasoline powered) generators and they use them in ways that they think are safe, but they're not.

Solar Electric

We can help you turn Green! If you have sunlight falling on your property, why not put it to work? Solar photovoltaic panels can be installed on your roof or pole-mounted on your property to maximize your solar exposure. For really optimum use, a tracking system can be put to work making the panels follow the sun throughout the day, then reset them for the next day’s sunrise.

We can also install a solar heat collector that can be used for heating water, but also can be used to warm your house. Interested? Read about the Apricus system.

Converting to solar will earn you some California renewable energy rebate money, and it could make you independant from the Grid. PG&E rates increase every year, with bigger increases planned (see , below), but you could be getting power credits as you bank your unused power with PG&E. Sweet revenge. You get back free electricity when it’s raining.

By the time May 1, 2008 rolled around when residential rates went up another 6.3 percent, PG&E customers had been hit with a rate hike every 10 weeks. And — according to PG&E — that's was just the beginning.

The San Francisco-based utility in October (2007) projected they'd need to increase their rates by 31 percent by 2011 to cover the cost of delayed replacement of aging facilities and other issues such as the procurement of power.

A note about solar products: solar is a rapidly developing technology so we do not stockpile equipment. We want to provide you with the latest equipment when it’s time for your job, not sell you something from the warehouse that might have been superseded. This is not to say that panels installed last year are out of date, but like buying anything new, you just know that two weeks later some “newer, better” version will show up. We just want to start you out with the latest technology available when you order your work.

Solar Heat Collectors

If you currently depend on an electric water heater, you are spending up to 25 percent of your monthly bill just to keep a supply of hot water available. What if you switched to a solar-powered system that would pay for itself in a few years? We now are able to offer the Apricus Solar Collector, a device that absorbs thermal energy from the sun and converts it into usable heat. The heat is normally absorbed by a freeze resistant water mix which can then be used to supplement hot water heating, space heating, even space cooling via use of an absorption chiller or dessicant cooler technology.

Carnahan Electric will handle the installation and electrical, then our plumbing contractor, Jim Feusi (Lic. No. 628988) will handle the piping and water work.
